SASPA, the San Antonio School for the Performing Arts was founded in 1984 by Nancy Grossenbacher with two major goals-to provide a quality foundation in the performing arts for those who desire the
arts as a career and to instill and perpetuate a genuine appreciation of the arts in our youth, thereby nurturing the artistic growth of San Antonio for future generations.  Now directed by Scott M. Conway the
school has three state of the art sprung hardwood floors with multi-level barres and mirrors throughout.  One studio has a marley flooring overlay while the other two studios have the flooring exposed for tap
and beginning level classes. The largest studio can be converted into a seventy seat theater for student performances.  In addition there are dressing rooms, music rooms, lobby, kitchen and several offices.
Observation Weeks take place two times a year but are not mandatory for parents to attend.
Holidays observed are Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the Fourth of July.

Dance Technique reflects the traditionally based Russian (Vaganova) and Italian (Cecchetti) styles of ballet.  The jazz is a cross section of contemporary high energy west coast combined with east coast
Broadway.  Tap is taught in a Broadway style.
Classroom Etiquette teaches the student what is expected in the classroom and rehearsal settings.  Hair must always be pulled away from the face and in a bun.  NOT ALLOWED  are boxer shorts, jewelry,
watches, jeans, T-shirts, halter tops, food, drinks, water bottles, smoking or gum.  Street shoes are not allowed on dance floors or dance shoes outside.  Tardiness, improper attire, poor attendance and poor attitude
will result in dismissal from the school.
School Faculty are degreed or have equivalent professional experience in their training and performance.
Recommended are cover-ups to be worn over dance attire to and from SASPA.  Personal property is NOT SASPA'S RESPONSIBILITY!  Please write student's name in all belongings to facilitate finding lost
property.
Performance Opportunities include a yearly recital in June to celebrate student accomplishment.  Sasparillas, Coming Attractions and SASPA Dance Co. are companies of the school open by audition to
students of SASPA.  The semi-professional Alamo Ctiy Dance Co., also in residence at the school, provides other performance opportunites throughout the year.  The companies perform ballet, jazz, modern and
tap styles providing an intense study of dance technique in a company setting.
